When it was finally revealed that Jose Mourinho would be taking over at Inter Milan many wondered whether he could replicate the magic he created at Chelsea and Porto and others were hoping he would fall flat on his face. Because of his naturally controversial style, many people don’t care for the Portuguese maestro but the reason most people hate Mourinho is because he always seems to come out on top.
He guided Porto to an unbelievable Champions League victory before leaving under a cloud of controversy and taking over at Chelsea. Once in London he set about creating his masterplan and soon compiled a squad that was capable of competing at the very highest level. Of course he was bankrolled by Roman’s millions but nobody would have thought he could guide the Blues to consecutive Premiership titles in his first two seasons in England. Add League Cup and FA Cup victories and you can see why he was so fondly thought of by the Chelsea fans and why they were so devastated when he left.
There was of course talk of Mourinho taking the England job before Fabio Capello secured the post. I never really saw it happening though, despite his popularity. He was linked with all kinds of jobs before eventually popping up in Milan to take over at Inter. This was a much different proposition though as the Italian side were already successful and anything less than continued dominance of the Italian league would be deemed as failure.
Well, as I write this article, Inter are ten points clear at the top of Serie A and look like they’re coasting to yet another domestic title. If Mourhinho can take them to Champions League glory, he will already have left a legacy in Milan to rival his achievements in Portugal and England. Will Inter Milan football shirts once again sport the champions badge? I wouldn’t at all be surprised.
