Chelsea Managers

Chelsea FC have always had a talent for picking some outstanding managers, and their past three have been no different. In 2004 the London club hired the ‘special one’, Jose Mourinho. The outrageous Portuguese manager brought a real spark to the club with his mardy attitude, labeling himself as one of the greatest managers ever, although the big headed forty five year old did have some evidence to back himself up, winning the Premier League trophy twice in his first two seasons at the club, as well as picking up two League Cups, an FA Cup and a Champions League title in his three year period at the club. While at Chelsea, Mourinho influenced some of the players so much that they are now wanting to leave Chelsea to join him at his new club, Inter Milan, who are based in Italy.

After José Mourinho had departed in 2007, Chelsea searched for the right manager and found then fifty two year old Avram Grant. Grant was an Israeli who had spent his whole career coaching different teams, and had been manager of his national side, Israel, from 2002 until 2006. Avram Grant failed to make an instant impact, failing to do very well in the league, and although he promised many trophies he failed to award the club with those awards, although he did help the London side to come second in the Premier League and reach the final of the Champions League, both of which were lost to Manchester United on the last day of the season. After his trophy-less season, Grant’s contract was terminated and the search for a new manager started again.

Chairman Roman Abramovich seemed to want Mourinho back at the club, supposedly buying him a limited edition Ferrari to get him back at the club, although his efforts were unsuccessful. Chelsea can’t complain about their new manager, Phil Scolari, however. The former Portugal manager has one of the best managerial record in history of football, and has said recently said that he will hope to bring all four major trophies to the club next season, which would be an astonishing achievement.
